The Municipal Library was inaugurated on 05/08/1970 and officially created by law nº 129, of 10/10/1979. In 2001, by Law No. 1269, of 11/13/2001 , was named “Municipal Library – Arthur Ricci de Camargo”.
Located in Praça Porcino Rodrigues, next to the Museum of Memory, the library has a varied and valuable collection of works of Brazilian and international literature, being much sought after by students of the city's municipal schools. It is a recommended place for anyone visiting Itapecerica da Serra to explore its rich collection.
Arthur Ricci de Camargo, born on February 8, 1895 in Mogi Mirim, in the state of São Paulo, was one of the greatest educators of the 20th century in the municipality of Itapecerica da Serra. Son of Alexandre Ricci de Camargo and Benedita Ricci. His career in education began in 1920, when he graduated as a teacher from Escola Normal Primaria in São Paulo. In 1938, he moved to Itapecerica da Serra and began his activities as a primary educator at Grupo Escolar Belchior de Pontes, where he promoted activities for the intellectual development of children.
Until 1944, Arthur Ricci de Camargo worked as a teacher and director, opening new schools and actively participating in literacy activities in Itapecerica da Serra. He left a significant legacy in the field of education in the region, so much so that the Escola Estadual de Primeira Grau do Pombal was named Escola Estadual Profº Ricci de Camargo. The name of the educator is still remembered today.
