The Historical Memorial Museum of Itapecerica da Serra is housed in the former building of the Santa Casa de Misericórdia in this city. The building where the museum is located was built in 1921, being one of the most important and preserved historic buildings in the city.
Inaugurated in 2004, it addressed the political, economic and ethnic history of Itapecerica da Serra and region. In the main room of the museum there were showcases that presented several varieties of antique objects, such as dental equipment, precision scales, documents, photos, clippings and others.
The “ Beleza dos Povos Originários - Beauty of the Originating Peoples” exhibition is on display, an opportunity to immerse yourself in the works of plastic artists Edna Alves and Clau do Embu. The exhibition presents more than 30 pieces of art, including paintings and sculptures, that portray the daily life of indigenous peoples, the exuberance of the vegetation and the fauna of the forest. With a positive and colorful approach, the works capture the beauty of indigenous peoples, while not ignoring the challenges faced by them in recent years. The experience provided to visitors is engaging and reflective, highlighting the importance and diversity of these ancestral cultures and the connection with our municipality.
According to the law Law No. 1467, of 12/17/2003, the building intended for the Museum was the object of municipal protection, even before its inauguration.
In addition to this rich collection, the museum also has a collection of photos that tell the historical and political evolution of Itapecerica da Serra. The collection was organized under the curatorship of the illustrious Prof. Dimas Cavalheiro.
The Exhibition can be visited until the 8th of July, at the Historical and Memory Museum, located at Praça Professor Porcino Rodrigues, 69 – downtown, from 9 am to 5 pm, from Tuesday to Sunday. Admission is free and suitable for all ages.
